Ravan Bashirov, a TV presenter from Azerbaijan whose photos are used by scammers
Ravan Bashirov was born in 1984 in Azerbaijan. He is a well-known television presenter in his country, where he has hosted talk shows, interviews and news segments.
Why scammers choose his photos
Outside Azerbaijan, he is almost unknown and little information about him can be found. For scammers, this is an advantage: they can use his photos with little risk of being exposed.
A common tactic is to use stolen photos of innocent people to deceive victims on dating sites. The photos are chosen to convey a certain image: a successful entrepreneur, a military officer, a model. Combined with an elaborate story, they make it easier to gain the victim’s trust and sympathy.
Once trust is established, the money requests begin, or requests for personal information. Before trusting someone only because of a profile photo, check who that person really is, and be wary of any request for financial help.
- Run a reverse image search on the profile photos (Google Lens, TinEye).
- Ask for a live video call; scammers always find an excuse.
- Compare the photos with those listed on the page photos used by scammers.
